Weasels Win Title at Senior World Series
The West Coast Walloping Weasels won Division 4 of the Men’s Senior Baseball World Series in Tempe, Ariz., last weekend.
The Weasels, composed of Valley-area players aged 30 and over, defeated teams from Sacramento, Colorado, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Michigan. The Weasels’ only loss in the 26-team, round-robin tournament was to a team from San Diego.
Jeff Ahern of Reseda, who played at Arizona State, struck out 11 in 10 innings in the Weasels’ 5-4 win over Sacramento. Ahern, 30, also struck out 20 batters in 9 innings to earn a victory over Long Island, N.Y..
Paul Gilmartin of Moorpark, 36, was 10 for 15 and had 12 runs batted in during the tournament. Jamie Barry of Van Nuys, 35, had 2 game-winning RBIs.
