Publisher Rupert Murdoch announced plans to begin a new women’s magazine with Grace Mirabella, who left Vogue in July after 17 years as editor-in-chief. Murdoch, chief executive of News Corp., said the monthly magazine would be named Mirabella and begin publication in the spring. Grace Mirabella left Vogue after 37 years, reportedly because Conde Nast Publications Inc. decided the highly successful fashion magazine needed fresh leadership to deal with the challenge from the hot-selling Elle. News Corp. recently sold its 50% interest in the American and British editions of Elle to its partner in that venture, Hachette Group of France.
