Prep Soccer Roundup : Short-Handed Brea Rallies for Victory

Brea-Olinda High School, playing without six starters who were benched for the game, defeated Marina, 3-2, in a boys’ nonleague soccer match Tuesday at Marina.

Brea Coach Manny Toledo said he did not play six players who missed practice during the holiday vacation. Brea-Olinda was forced to play with 11 players and had no reserves. Jaysn Ochs’ goal 31 minutes into the second half gave the Wildcats the victory.

In Olympic League boys’ soccer:

Capistrano Valley Christian 2, Whitney 1--Bobby Haze and Bryan Reedy scored for host Capistrano Valley Christian (3-2 overall and 1-0 in league play).

In Sunset League girls’ soccer:

Marina 2, Ocean View 1--Julie Muche broke a 1-1 tie with a goal 25 minutes into the second half for host Marina (7-5-1, 1-0). Sandra Ross scored earlier in the half for Marina. Colleen McGuckin scored for Ocean View in the first half.

Huntington Beach 3, Fountain Valley 0--Lisa Leiker scored 2 goals and Kerry Kelkter 1 for host Huntington Beach (6-7, 1-0).

Edison 2, Westminster 2--Allyson Gibbs scored both Edison goals, and Kim Sentman and Julie Johnston scored for Westminster.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

El Dorado 2, Brea-Olinda 1--Teresa Kortey and Lisa Darden each scored for host El Dorado (6-1-3).
