Vacancy levels in the national office-building market in 1988 were generally lower while vacancy of industrial space increased slightly, according to Coldwell Banker Commercial Group, the nationwide commercial real estate firm. Office vacancy rates at 1988 year-end were 16.2% for downtown areas, down from 16.3% from the previous year and the lowest level since June, 1985, and 21.5% for suburban areas, down from 22.8% a year earlier. The industrial vacancy index ended 1988 at 6%, up from 5.5% in 1987.
