Argentina upset Sweden 2-1 and Australia swept Czechoslovakia 3-0 at the World Team Cup tennis tournament today.

The unexpected victory over the defending champions gave Argentina a 2-0 record in the Red Group, and the South Americans need only one point from Friday’s match against winless Czechoslovakia to reach the semifinals.

Stefan Edberg, the Wimbledon champion, gave Sweden an early lead by trouncing Guillermo Perez-Roldan in the opening singles 6-1, 6-1. Martin Jaite beat Jonas Svensson 6-2, 6-3 to even the score and Gustavo Luza and Javier Frana then outlasted Edberg and Anders Jarryd 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the doubles to put Argentina atop the group.
