NAMES IN THE NEWS : Boxer’s Brother Guilty of Murder
Henry Hearns, the youngest brother of boxer Thomas Hearns, has been convicted of second-degree murder for shooting his fiancee two nights before his brother fought Sugar Ray Leonard to a draw.
The jury deliberated about six hours over two days before returning the verdict Tuesday. The jury also convicted Hearns of using a firearm to commit a felony.
Hearns, 23, was charged with first-degree murder in the June 10 slaying of Nancy Barile, 19, of Shelby Township. Barile was shot in the boxer’s Southfield home.
Hearns faces up to life in prison on the murder charge and a mandatory two years on the firearm charge. Sentencing was scheduled for Dec. 12.
