Steve Nishimoto, Fullerton High School’s football coach for the past three years, has resigned his position to concentrate on his teaching assignment.

Nishimoto compiled a 17-17-1 record, and his teams qualified for the Southern Section playoffs three consecutive years. Fullerton advanced to the Division VI semifinals last year before losing to Valencia.

Fullerton finished 7-4 this season and was third in the Freeway League. The Indians lost to Brea-Olinda, 35-6, in the first round of the Division VI playoffs.

Nishimoto was an assistant for two years under Bob Rau at La Habra before replacing Marty Luczaj at Fullerton in 1987.

A Fullerton Union High School District official said applications for Nishimoto’s position are being accepted until Dec. 13 with a teaching position available.
