This digital remastering brings back a dramatic, romantic work reminiscent at times of MacDowell’s “Indian Suite” and Dvorak’s “New World.” Yet, from its opening and unifying blues scale, the symphony reflects the imaginative incorporation of folk tunes and other influences into an enjoyable, sometimes powerful work. The disc presents only 35 minutes of music.
