Ruptured Sewer Line Spills Waste Into Streets
A sewer line ruptured in Long Beach on Friday, spilling 120,000 gallons of waste into city streets. The sewage flowed into the city’s storm drain system and then spilled into the Colorado Lagoon, city health officials said.
Long Beach Department of Health and Human Service officials said that an incoming tide prevented the sewage from escaping from the lagoon out into the Marine Stadium area and Alamitos Bay.
The spill caused the temporary closing of 7th Street and Ximeno Avenue, but they were expected to be reopened Friday evening.
