Lois Logie Powers Mason; Retired Seamstress

Lois Logie Powers Mason, a longtime North Hollywood resident and retired seamstress, has died in North Hollywood. She was 86.

Mrs. Mason died Thursday of heart failure, her daughter, Barbara Powers, said.

Born Lois Logie in Redlands on Jan. 10, 1904, she moved to Hollywood as a child. In 1922, she graduated from Hollywood High School and married Floyd Powers, who later died. During World War II, she worked as a riveter for the Lockheed Corp. in Los Angeles and, in 1949, moved to the San Fernando Valley.

She worked as a seamstress for Penn Stores, an interior decorating firm, in North Hollywood until her retirement in 1969.

Mrs. Mason was a longtime member of several Valley-based clubs, including the Amaranth Paradise Court No. 118, for which she served as secretary for 18 years; Daughters of the Nile, Mokattaam Temple No. 12; and Eastern Star, Heritage Roseland Chapter No. 465. She also bred and showed champion dachshunds from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s and was a longtime member of the Dachshund Club of California and the Dachshund Club of America.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Chips Mason; sons Floyd Powers of Whittier, Bill Powers of Grants Pass, Ore., and Albert Powers of Idaho; a daughter, Barbara Powers of Los Angeles; stepsons Terry Mason of Glendale and Larry Mason of Reno, Nev.; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Pierce Brothers Meyer-Mitchell Mortuary, 5940 Van Nuys Blvd., in Van Nuys, which is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Mrs. Mason’s name to the Amaranth Cancer Fund, Paradise Court No. 118, 14750 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, 91405.
