CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SANTA ANA : Tax Measure to Fund Jail OKd for Ballot

A commission formed only hours before a ballot deadline Friday authorized a measure in which Orange County residents will decide whether to fund a new jail with a half-cent sales tax hike. The five-member Orange County Regional Justice Facilities Commission unanimously approved the May 14 referendum less than four hours after 28 of the county’s 29 mayors selected two panel members.
