Fourth-seeded Tim Sweeney of Chicago defeated second-seeded Egan Inoue of Honolulu, 15-5, 15-4, to win the American Amateur Racquetball Assn.’s Open singles championship at Houston. Last year’s winner, Tim Doyle, was beaten by Sweeney in the semifinals.
Top-seeded Michelle Gilman of Ontario, Ore., won her third consecutive women’s Open title by defeating second-seeded Toni Bevelock of Santa Ana, 15-10, 15-4, in a repeat of last year’s final.
