The Texas Rangers continue to win games and lose pitchers. Their latest casualty is right-hander Bobby Witt, whose sore right shoulder forced him to leave Sunday night’s game in Seattle and could land him on the disabled list.

“This injury worries me,” Witt said Monday before the Rangers extended their winning streak to 14 games by beating the Minnesota Twins. “This is as sore as it’s ever been.”

Witt said he will visit Dr. Mike Mycoskie, Ranger team physician, today to see how serious the problem is, but he’s not encouraged.

Witt aggravated an already ailing shoulder in Sunday’s 6-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners. He said he has considerable pain in the front and back of his right shoulder.

Toronto Blue Jay pitcher Dave Stieb (4-3) will miss a start for the first time in almost two years tonight against the Oakland Athletics at Toronto because of tendinitis in his right shoulder. Stieb had a streak of 59 consecutive starts dating to June of 1989. The All-Star right-hander should pitch again Saturday against the Angels.

“It’s been in the background pretty well my entire career,” Stieb said. “There’s always day-after soreness, but I can usually throw through it, work it out. Not this time.”
