VENTURA : Phony Customer Robs Savings & Loan

Share

Authorities Monday were seeking a man who masqueraded as a customer before robbing a Home Savings & Loan branch in Ventura of an undisclosed sum of money.

The robber, believed to be 28 to 30 years old, entered the branch in the 2100 block of South Victoria Avenue about 10:50 a.m., approached a teller and asked to make a withdrawal before presenting a note demanding money, said Gary Auer, head of the FBI’s Ventura office.

Although the man did not display a weapon or say in his demand note that he was carrying one, “the note inferred that if things didn’t go the way he wanted, someone would get hurt,” Auer said.

Investigators believe that the man was acting alone because no escape vehicle was seen.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Ventura police described the robber as a white man with brown hair, about 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds.

He wore a dark blue baseball cap, a blue denim jacket and pants, and sunglasses with black plastic frames.

FBI investigators hope to get a picture of the suspect today from surveillance cameras.
