A 90-year-old Rancho Bernardo man who was pinned by his car, freed himself and then reparked the vehicle was later found dead by a postman Wednesday, apparently of a heart attack, police said.

Louis Charles Maefs was moving his car when he became pinned between it and the garage wall of his home in the 17000 block of Via Altivia, San Diego police said. Maefs was dragged 20 feet before he freed himself, said Dan Matticks, an investigator with the San Diego County medical examiner’s office.

Once freed, Maefs got back in the car, parked it and then collapsed outside it, Matticks said. He died Tuesday, apparently of a heart attack, sometime between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.
