CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : THE SOUTHLAND : 3 Sites Nominated for Superfund List
Three Southern California sites have been nominated for inclusion on the federal Superfund list, the U.S Environmental Protection Agency announced. They are the Del Amo Facility in Los Angeles, a 300-acre industrial site that produced rubber during World War II near Del Amo Boulevard and Vermont Avenue; the Stoker Co., a pesticide supplier in rural Imperial; and a Westminster neighborhood in Orange County, where tar-like toxic globs have oozed into residential yards for almost a decade. Inclusion on the list means the sites could pose a serious health threat and will be cleaned up with federal funds under government supervision.
