Man Shot by Police at Anaheim Complex
An unidentified man was in stable condition after he was shot by Anaheim police outside an apartment complex early Saturday, authorities said.
Police have not been able to identify the man, who was being held at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. when two officers attempted to question the man about “suspicious activity” in an apartment complex at 2001 S. Haster St., said Anaheim Police Lt. Ray Welch. Authorities declined to describe the nature of the activity being investigated.
Officers ordered him to stop several times, Welch said. Suddenly, “the suspect stopped, turned toward the officers and made a furtive movement with his hands to his waistband,” Welch said. “The suspect was subsequently shot by one of the officers.”
The man, who was described only as a Latino about 23 years old, suffered a single gunshot wound to his upper chest. Police declined to say whether any weapons were found on the suspect.
