FOOTBALL : Lincoln’s First Loss Comes at Hands of Marshall, 31-12

The knock against Lincoln and its 6-0 record was that the Tigers hadn’t played anyone good yet.

Friday, they played Northern Conference foe Marshall. The knock proved accurate.

The Tigers could not keep pace with a faster Barrister team and were soundly beaten, 31-12. Marshall running back Aman Abye, who had 43 yards rushing and 50 yards receiving, gave the Tigers’ secondary the most trouble. Abye chalked up the Barristers’ second touchdown on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and the final touchdown on a 16-yard pass from quarterback Shane Gerard.

On its first possession, Marshall faced third-and-13 when Gerard threw a short pass to Everett Green that resulted in a 47-yard scoring play. Gerard completed nine of 14 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Lincoln quarterback Gerardo Roman, the area’s leading passer, completed nine of 23 passes for 168 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Receiver Marcelo Ortega caught five passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns.

Marshall, which improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in conference, will play host to Belmont for the Northern Conference championship at 2:15 p.m. Friday. Lincoln dropped to 6-1 overall and 3-1.
