UCI Doubles Teams Reach Second Round
Two UC Irvine doubles teams advanced in first-round play of the Rolex Southern California Women’s Tennis Championship Thursday at UCI.
Michelle Manley and Krista Kuechier defeated Ann Tapper and Mollie Pharris of New Mexico State, 6-2, 6-1, and Cory Crigger and Ali Yoshimoto beat Alicia Mendez and Meredith Chiles of UCLA, 6-3, 6-4.
UCLA’s Keri Phebus, formerly of Corona del Mar High, withdrew from the tournament. Phebus was seeded third.
Four Irvine singles players lost in the first round. The third round of singles begins at 8:30 a.m. today with doubles following at 2:30 p.m.
