PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Montoya Ready to Test His Knee

Share

For the first time in seven games, offensive guard Max Montoya will be in the starting lineup Sunday when the Raiders play host to the Seattle Seahawks.

After being on injured reserve for six weeks because of a right knee injury, Montoya was activated before the Raiders’ 31-10 loss at Philadelphia, but played only on field goal and extra point plays.

“I’m doing real well now and the knee feels good,” Montoya said. “But I still have to test it under fire.

“(Last week) the situation wasn’t good for me to try it, with it being real sticky on artificial turf. I was only there if I was needed.”

Montoya will replace Todd Peat, who will become the Raiders’ top backup at both guard positions and center.

Defensive end Anthony Smith is a boxing fan, and he is picking Evander Holyfield to retain his heavyweight title against Riddick Bowe tonight in Las Vegas.

“I’m going with Holyfield because of his conditioning,” said Smith, who has nine sacks. “He also has more experience.”

Since the Raiders moved to Los Angeles in 1982, Seattle has a 6-4 record in league games at the Coliseum. The Raiders have won the last five meetings against Seattle.
