Buena High junior tailback George Keiaho, despite being hampered by an ankle injury for much of the season, finished with a personal-high 1,760 yards and 22 touchdowns in 242 carries in his career. Keiaho, the first freshman in state history to rush for more than 1,000 yards, raised his three-year totals to 4,337 yards and 51 touchdowns in 630 carries (6.9-yard average).

Keiaho needs 1,662 yards to pass Crespi’s Russell White, who rushed for 5,998 yards from 1986-88. The Southern Section and state record is 7,257, set in 1989-91 by David Dotson of Valley View of Moreno Valley.

Keiaho began the season by rushing for a Ventura County-record 415 yards against Westlake.

Rushing: Montclair Prep running back Eliel Swinton passed the 5,000-yard mark with 175 yards Friday against Village Christian. Swinton, who has 5,105 yards in his career, remains in seventh place on the Southern Section all-time list. This week he should pass Napolean Kaufman (Lompoc, ‘88-90, 5,146), Steve Tetrick (L.A. Baptist, ‘70-72, 5,181) and Craig Johnson (Whittier Christian, ‘73-75, 5,213) and move into fourth place.

Last week, the converted defensive lineman passed for 214 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a score. He has thrown for 1,523 yards and is the lone quarterback in the region with at least 100 attempts who has a completion rate of better than 60%. Walker has completed 98 of 159 passes (61.6%).
