A motorist was killed Friday when he lost control of his vehicle and plowed into oncoming traffic, causing a spectacular four-car collision near Oxnard.

Two other motorists were injured, one seriously.

The driver of the Datsun sports car, who died after crossing the center median about 6:05 p.m. and hitting an oncoming car, was not identified.

Two motorists were treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, one complaining of minor pain and the other with serious injuries, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jon West said.

A fourth motorist escaped injury, he said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Datsun driver was traveling south on Victoria Avenue north of Gonzales Road when he crossed over the dirt median, West said.

The Datsun clipped a pickup truck before being struck broadside by a woman driving an Oldsmobile, West said. A fourth car behind the Oldsmobile plowed into that collision, he said.

The names of the injured were not available late Friday. West said no alcoholic beverages were found at the scene.

Northbound Victoria Avenue was closed to traffic between Gonzales Road and Olivas Park Drive for several hours Friday night while CHP officers finished their investigation.
