Share

Jim Sebreros of Garden Grove continued his role as one of Orange County’s leading rushers as he gained 217 yards and scored four touchdowns in Garden Grove’s 30-14 victory over Troy.

John Guthrie passed for 327 yards and three touchdown, completing 14 of 21 passes, to lead Kennedy to a 38-13 victory over Inglewood Morningside.

BEDEVILED

Pomona High football Coach Ken Robinson called his team’s selection to the Division VII playoffs, “a gift from God” after the Devils won a coin flip with Gladstone, La Puente and Bassett to determine the Montview League’s third-place team.

“We’ve been blessed,” Robinson said. But following the Devils’ 27-0 loss to top-seeded Sunny Hills Friday night, one has to wonder if Pomona received a booby prize.

TWO STORIES

For Buena Park’s George McDonald, Friday’s 17-13 loss to Culver City was a case of two different games in one evening.

McDonald rushed for 103 yards in the first half and scored twice in the first quarter to give the Coyotes a 13-0 lead. But Culver City held him to one yard in nine carries in the second half.

NOTEWORTHY

The Garden Grove League, which put four teams into playoffs, still have four alive after the first round.

Kennedy beat Morningside, 38-13, Garden Grove beat Troy, 30-14, Los Amigos beat Azusa, 24-14, and Rancho Alamitos stopped Righetti, 57-17.
