3.7 Quake Damages Chimneys in Bay Area

An earthquake rattled the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday, damaging several chimneys near the epicenter, on the Hayward Fault just north of San Leandro, but causing no injuries.

The quake, at 1:05 p.m., had a magnitude 3.7, scientists at the National Earthquake Information Center in Lakewood, Colo., said.

The quake was felt throughout the East Bay and on the northern San Francisco Peninsula. It damaged several chimneys in an Oakland neighborhood about one mile north of San Leandro, a radio station reported.
