BRIEFLY : Preservation: 2 Awards Go to Culver City Project
The restored Ivy Substation in Culver City has won awards from two major preservation organizations.
The substation, which once distributed electrical power for local rail service, won the Los Angeles Conservancy’s 1994 Conservancy Preservation Award. It was cited for “exemplary completed rehabilitation” in this year’s awards presentation by the City of Los Angeles’ Cultural Heritage Commission.
Built in 1907, the Ivy Substation is the only remaining unaltered substation built by the Los Angeles Pacific Co. Renovated at a cost of $2 million for the Culver City Redevelopment Agency, it now serves as a community center and houses a community theater. The restoration project was managed by Tishman Construction Corp.
