Life & Style Goes to the Oscar Parties : MIRAMAX : A Party So Hot, the Fire Marshals Crashed It

The Scene: Post-Oscar madness prevailed Monday night at the Miramax party held at soon-to-be ex-Chasen’s. The restaurant’s California Room and a huge tent in the parking lot were jammed with almost a thousand revelers, while a few hundred more populated the more breathable VIP area. As the party metastasized out of control, the fire marshals showed up to put a lid on it.

Who Was There: Best original screenplay winners Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary and best supporting actress Dianne Wiest plus Madonna, Courtney Love, Jay Leno, Timothy Hutton, Holly Hunter, Julie Delpy, Sally Kirkland, Ellen Barkin and Kevin Spacey.

Chow: It must have been slim pickings for the macrobiotic Madonna as the cuisine leaned heavily in favor of the carnivorous.

How it Feels: “It’s overwhelming,” said “Bullets Over Broadway” co-star Wiest. “I don’t know how I feel right now. I might not know for a week or two.” And, from Tarantino: “It feels pretty damn good.”

Roger, Why Didn’t You Go Before The Ceremony? “I don’t know,” said Avary, clutching his statue. He is perhaps the first to graciously leave the stage with an Oscar by announcing he was going to go pee. “It’s one of those things,” he said. “I’m glad this is how I’m going to be remembered.”
