LADERA HEIGHTS : Council OKs $10,000 Reward in Man’s Killing
The Los Angeles City Council has approved a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the gunman in the April 5 killing in Ladera Heights of a part-time model and aspiring actor.
Richard Dunbar, known to friends as Alexander, was shot several times by an unknown assailant at about 10:30 p.m. in front of an apartment complex in the 7000 block of Alvern Street, police said.
Dunbar, 33, parked his 1987 BMW convertible and walked across the street to the apartment complex, where he was confronted by the gunman, said Los Angeles Homicide Detective Bill Cox.
Witnesses said they heard gunshots and cries for help. The gunman allegedly ran into an alley off Alvern Street and entered the passenger side of an unidentified vehicle, which then sped off.
Dunbar died at the scene, with several bullet wounds in his upper torso.
“It appears to be an attempted carjacking, but we’re not ruling anything out,” Cox said. “We just hope the reward will prompt someone to come forward.”
Dunbar had appeared in print advertisements for Nike, among other companies, and was seeking movie roles, said Janet Neal, one of his friends.
