CAMARILLO : City Will Donate $4,200 to BRAC ’95
Joining a renewed effort to raise funds to help defend the Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station from closure, the Camarillo City Council has approved donating an additional $4,200 to the BRAC ’95 Task Force.
In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the council gave the committee the extra money as it begins a high-stakes, last-minute lobbying campaign to save the base, its 9,000 jobs and nearly $1-billion contribution to the Ventura County economy.
Last fall, the city contributed $19,000 to the effort to save the military installation.
Earlier this week, the County Board of Supervisors donated $6,000 to the new fund-raising campaign while the Simi Valley City Council approved a donation of $2,500.
Task force Executive Director Bill Simmons said the money would go toward continuing a Washington lobbying campaign to save the sprawling base south of Oxnard.
