Southwest to Begin Florida Service: Moving into an already competitive market, Southwest Airlines Co. said Thursday it will expand into Florida next year with daily flights to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa. The move marks a significant geographical expansion for Dallas-based Southwest, the nation’s most-profitable carrier, best known for its no-frills flights and low fares. Industry experts said the new service was likely to drive down fares in Florida. Southwest’s new flights will compete with Continental Airlines, USAir, Trans World Airlines and Comair, which provides feeder service for Delta Air Lines.
