Authorities on Thursday caught one of three inmates who escaped from the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic. The two others remained at large.

Julio Treto, 42, of Van Nuys, was discovered by Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators at a friend’s apartment in the 13800 block of Victory Boulevard about 3 p.m., Sgt. Richard Dinsmoor said.

Treto, who was serving time for burglary, was arrested without incident, Dinsmoor said. He was booked at Men’s Central Jail in Downtown Los Angeles and will be charged with escaping from prison, Dinsmoor said.

Authorities said Treto, Marcelle Gonzales, 21, and Antonio Carbajal, 30, all of Van Nuys, punched a hole in the jail bakery where they worked and climbed out sometime early Wednesday or late Tuesday. They rappelled to the ground with bedspreads and scurried through a hole in the fence.

It was the fifth escape this year from the sprawling Pitchess compound, and the second from its maximum-security North County Correctional Facility.

On April 30, in the largest prison breakout in Los Angeles history, 14 inmates escaped from the North County facility. Two remain at large--murderer Luis A. Galmadez and carjacker Walter R. Padilla.
