FULLERTON : Teachers Union Wants Trustee to Resign

Share

Angered by a board member’s comments about the finances of the North Orange County Community College District, its teachers union is calling for his resignation.

Trustee Chris Loumakis stated recently that although the district lost $8.8 million in the collapse last year of Orange County’s investment pool, it did not suffer financially, a union spokesman said.

That statement, said Bob Simpson, president of the district’s teachers union, was made despite the fact that the district was forced to eliminate several faculty positions, demote administrators, combine jobs and leave about 35 vacant instructors’ jobs unfilled.

Calling Loumakis “untrustworthy,” Simpson said he will present the college district’s board Tuesday with a resolution passed unanimously by the union calling for the trustee to step down.

Loumakis said his statement was accurate: “After 12 years on this board, I would be proud to be taken out of office for telling the truth.”
