Jordan’s Hot Start Leads Bulls to Easy Victory

Michael Jordan scorched Milwaukee for 21 first-quarter points, finishing with 33 to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 115-106 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night at Chicago. The Bulls are 29-0 at home this season.

“Everyone seemed to be hesitant to take shots. I wasn’t hesitant,” said Jordan, who made seven of his first 11 shots, including all four three-point tries in the first quarter.

Luc Longley added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Bulls.

Dennis Rodman was ejected after he was called for a flagrant foul when he knocked the Bucks’ Sherman Douglas out of bounds as he was driving to the basket in the third quarter.

Seattle 107, Cleveland 101--The SuperSonics stretched their team-record winning streak to 14 with a double-overtime victory at Cleveland behind 14 extra-period points by Detlef Schrempf.

Dallas 127, New Jersey 117--George McCloud, Jim Jackson and Jason Kidd led a long-range barrage as the Mavericks broke their league record with 49 three-point attempts and matched their league mark for successful three-pointers with 18 at Dallas.

McCloud had 30 points and was seven for 20 from three-point range. Jackson (28 points) and Kidd (26 points) each made four three-point shots.

“If you’re open, you shoot,” Jackson said. “It’s fun.”

Miami 113, Minnesota 72--At Miami, Tim Hardaway had 19 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and six steals as he helped the Heat hand the Timberwolves their worst loss in franchise history.

Orlando 123, Charlotte 97--Anfernee Hardaway had 27 points and 10 assists as the Magic reached the .500 mark on the road for the first time in two months with a victory at Charlotte.

Detroit 105, Toronto 84--Grant Hill scored 27 of his 31 points in the second half and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Pistons at Toronto.

Golden State 110, Vancouver 78--Latrell Sprewell scored 28 points and Joe Smith added 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Warriors at Oakland.

Houston 100, Portland 93--At Portland, Eldridge Recasner scored the Rockets’ final eight points and Sam Mack made four three-point shots as injury-ravaged Houston earned its sixth consecutive victory.

Utah 112, Sacramento 97--John Stockton had 30 points and Karl Malone added 25 and 15 rebounds as the Jazz routed the injury-depleted Kings at Sacramento.

Phoenix 108, Indiana 95--Charles Barkley gained his 20th consecutive double-double by scoring 16 of his 37 points in the first quarter to go along with 17 rebounds at Phoenix.

NBA Notes

Houston Rocket doctors removed loose cartilage from Sam Cassell’s right elbow and said he should be playing by April. . . . Chris Mullin will undergo surgery today to repair ligament damage in the pinky of his right hand and likely will sit out the rest of the regular season.
