Sow for transplanting: celeriac, leaf celery, annual herbs (except in the low desert and mountains).
Sow: beets, leeks, onions (except in the desert), carrots, radishes (except in the low desert and high mountains), fava beans (except in the mountains).
Plant: Chinese artichokes, horseradish, Jerusalem artichokes, shallots, strawberries, garlic, shallots, rhubarb (except in the desert), asparagus, potatoes, (except in the low desert and high mountains).
Harvest: winter greens and herbs, peas (except in the low desert and mountains), turnips (except in the low desert and high mountains), broccoli, carrots, radishes (except in the mountains).
COASTAL CLIMATES
Sow for transplanting: artichokes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cardoon, corn, okra, tomatillos, tomatoes.
Sow: peas, spring greens and herbs.
Harvest: beets, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower.
HIGH DESERT
Sow for transplanting: corn, cucumbers, eggplant, melons, watermelon, peppers, summer squash, tomatillos, tomatoes.
Sow: kohlrabi, turnips, rutabagas, peas, spring greens and herbs.
LOW DESERT
Sow: common beans plus all sown for transplanting in high desert.
Plant: sweet potato slips.
Harvest: beets, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower.
INTERIOR CLIMATES
(Where fuchsias grow fairly well)
Sow: fava and common beans, corn, peas, spring greens and herbs.
Harvest: beets, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower.
MOUNTAINS
Sow for transplanting: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower.
LOW MOUNTAINS
Also sow: Kohlrabi, peas, spring greens and herbs, turnips, rutabagas.
KEY
Where there are freezes, sow and plant when the ground can be worked.
Spring greens and herbs: arugula, celtuce, chard, chervil, Chinese cabbages, Chinese broccoli, chives, Chinese chives, chrysanthemum greens, cilantro, collards, corn salad, cresses, dandelion, green onions, shallots, kale, komatsuna, lettuce (romaine and butterhead), mizuna, pak choi, parsley, purslane, sorrel, spinach.
Winter greens and herbs: spring list plus cabbage, chicories, endive, winter lettuces, rosette pak choi.
When seeds can be sown, seedlings of the same crop can be planted. All crops can be grown in containers.
