Credit Union Seeks Skateboarding Ban
Already banned from downtown streets and parks, skateboarders could be driven from walkways at a credit union under a proposal before the City Council on Monday night.
Officials at the Ventura County Federal Credit Union at 6026 Telephone Road have asked the city to prohibit skateboarding, in-line skating, bicycling and roller-skating on sidewalks on their property.
The council will consider whether to hold a public hearing on the request, which follows a controversial decision earlier this year to prohibit in-line skating, skateboarders and cyclists from downtown.
The city has promised to consider plans for a skateboarding park down near the fairgrounds near Surfers Point. But some council members say the discussion of the skateboard park is likely to get bogged down with budget considerations, and skateboarders complain that the proposed park is too small for doing stunts.
