Laguna Canyon Road Report on Agenda
The Board of Supervisors will decide next week whether to proceed with a $748,000 engineering report on the long-delayed realignment of Laguna Canyon Road, considered one of the county’s most important highway projects.
The engineering and environmental study will cover about half of the 9.7-mile proposed realignment, from the San Diego Freeway to El Toro Road. The project is designed to widen the narrow canyon highway to four lanes from three and improve driver safety.
The report was supposed to be prepared in 1994, but the county bankruptcy forced a two-year delay. Once the study has been completed, the board will review the projected building costs and decide whether to move forward. Caltrans is expected to cover about half the costs.
