Documentary on Chavez to Be Shown
The life of labor activist Cesar Chavez is the subject of a film documentary to be shown this weekend in Oxnard.
“The Fight in the Fields, Cesar E. Chavez and Farm Workers Struggle,” will be shown at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way. Chavez died in 1993 at age 66.
Chavez, a migrant laborer whose family lost its farm during the Depression, organized the United Farm Workers labor union during the 1960s. He helped stage a massive boycott of California grapes to draw attention to the struggles of farm laborers.
The Oxnard Committee for the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation is showing the two-hour film. Admission is $10.
