Indians Head Home After Being Routed

There’s good news and bad news for the Cleveland Indians.

Finally, they get to go home after spending March in Florida in spring training and the first 10 days of the season on the West Coast.

The bad news is they’re heading home to open a series with the Angels on Friday night with a fair amount of their pitching in tatters.

On Tuesday night, it was Orel Hershiser, with his second bad outing in a row.

On Wednesday, it was a rookie, Bartolo Colon, who retired only two Mariners in their 11-1 victory Wednesday. He gave up six runs and was easily bested by a Seattle rookie, Bob Wolcott.

Wolcott pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings with a trip to triple-A Tacoma staring him in the face.

“I feel the pressure, but I’m just not trying to dwell on it,” he said.

His teammates took some of that pressure off quickly, roughing up Colon.

“I don’t think this was a particularly good outing for him,” Cleveland Manager Mike Hargrove said. “There were a couple of batters he got 0-2 and 1-2, and missed. That got them back into the count.”
