Remarks Quoted

I was surprised and saddened to read the quotes attributed to me in “Religious See a New Spirit in Hollywood” (March 31). Those quotes were taken so severely out of context as to distort their original tone and intent completely.

I made the quoted remarks a full year ago when speaking to a group of college students wanting to get a foothold in the entertainment industry. At that time, I advised the students not to come to Hollywood if their motivation was to carry out a moral or political agenda of any kind.

Unfortunately, without the context, your article made it sound as if I was representing the very attitude of moral superiority I was in fact warning against. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
