Search Ends for Dogs Suspected in Attack

Authorities have given up the search for two pit bulls accused of mauling a woman and killing her dog, an animal care supervisor said Thursday.

Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control had set out two food-baited, nonlethal traps. But only a couple of opossums were caught, according to an animal care supervisor. Both traps were removed this week because officials believe the dogs may no longer be in the area.

“I’m convinced, and so is the victim, that someone picked up the dogs and have taken them somewhere,” said Bruce Richards, a supervisor with animal care and control in Agoura, who added that the extra patrols set out after the dog attack were also stopped.

“We pulled them in because all we were catching was small wildlife animals,” Richards said.
