Ticket Increases Get a Rise Out of Fans

So, Fox management has decided to raise Dodger ticket prices $10-$15, on top of the 30% increase we’ve seen over the last three mediocre years. But that’s OK, management says, for most of the field seats are “owned by corporations,” according to the L.A. Times report on Nov. 19.

Gentlemen, I am not a corporation, just a hard-working baseball fan. As for “assisting” me to find seats I can afford, thanks, but no thanks. I spent 30 years working my way down to the “good seats.” I’ll be damned if I’ll retreat now. You’ve just “assisted” me toward finding another use for my hard-earned money!

I am a season-ticket holder who was just informed that my Dodger prices have gone up. While my reaction should be one of concern or even anger, it is actually one of relief. The Dodgers finally explained that the prices have increased so the payroll can, in an attempt to field a “championship” club.

Someone woke up over there and figured out that winning and attendance are relative, regardless of price. Besides, the prices are still the cheapest in town. Put together a winner, and I’ll be glad to act as a financial partner.

So the Angels are raising their ticket prices again. We should change their nickname from Angels to Angles. They angled us last year with the need to increase ticket prices to pay for Edison Field. Now their angle is they need the money to pay for Mo Vaughn and other free agents. Why don’t we acquire them before you jack up prices? With the holiday season around the corner, maybe we could put Mo Vaughn on layaway.

Why can owners pay players a base salary with incentives and not the fans? Hey, Disney, here is my offer: Eight bucks a seat plus incentives. An extra two bucks if the team finishes over .500. An extra buck if you go to the World Series and another two bucks for winning it. Take it or leave it.
