Valeri Zelepukin and Eric Lindros scored second-period goals Saturday night as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-0, at Philadelphia to extend the NHL’s longest current unbeaten streak to 13 games.

The Flyers extended their 8-0-5 streak in a game marred by injuries to Flyer goaltender Ron Hextall, Flyer defenseman Dmitri Tertyshny, Hurricane center Robert Kron and NHL linesman Gordon Broseker.

Hextall, who had stopped all 13 shots he faced, was replaced by John Vanbiesbrouck with 2:24 to play in the second period after suffering a groin injury making a save on Carolina’s Keith Primeau.

“I moved my left leg to the left and then I jerked back because the puck changed direction,” explained Hextall, who entered the game with 23 shutouts. “Just at that point you fire your muscle and I felt the pain.

“It’s not very serious. I hope I’ll be playing in a matter of days, but I’ll get a better assessment on Monday when the doctors take a look at it.”

Vanbiesbrouck had to make only seven saves, but two were brilliant back-to-back stops against Sami Kapanen and Jeff O’Neill midway through the third period.

Tertyshny suffered an ankle injury in the first minute of the game and was taken to a hospital for X-rays. Broseker was forced out of the game when he suffered a sprained right knee with 12:01 left in the second period. Kron suffered a sprained knee later in the same period and did not return.

Detroit 3, Colorado 2--The Red Wings won for only the third time in 11 games as Nicklas Lidstrom scored a tiebreaking power-play goal with 6:59 to play at Detroit.

Montreal 3, N.Y. Islanders 2--Stephane Quintal scored two goals, including the winner on a power play early in the third period, to lift the Canadiens at Montreal.

Patrick Poulin also scored for the Canadiens, who have won six of their last seven games.

Sergei Nemchinov and Mark Lawrence scored for the Islanders, who are winless in seven.

Quintal scored the winner when he lofted a wrist shot from the point toward a screened Marcel Cousineau. The puck deflected off Cousineau’s arm before going over his shoulder and into the net.
