13 Grand Jurors to Be Selected in July
Thirteen Ventura County residents will be chosen next month from a pool of 24 to sit on the 1999-2000 grand jury.
The grand jury investigates the management of various county and city government agencies, is involved in fiscal and management audits, and prepares reports on related matters. The body is also responsible for inquiring into certain types of criminal offenses, at the request of the district attorney.
At a ceremony on July 1, the names of the new jurors will be drawn. They will join six members from the 1998-99 grand jury, including foreman Marvin Reeber, whom the judges of the Superior Court chose to retain for another year.
The 11 candidates not chosen will serve as alternate grand jurors.
Also at the ceremony, Reeber will present a report from the past year’s grand jury to Superior Court Presiding Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr. The 1998-99 grand jury will then be discharged and the 1999-2000 panel will be sworn in.
