Marino Very Questionable for Sunday

Ailing Dan Marino did not throw in practice for the third day in a row Friday, and he’ll probably miss his first start since 1996 when the Miami Dolphins play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

“Dan did take a few snaps and did some conditioning work,” Coach Jimmy Johnson said. “We’ll make a decision Sunday morning as far as what his contribution will be.”

Marino has thrown on the sideline this week, but he can’t generate much velocity or distance because of muscle weakness caused by a bone spur in his lower neck.

Johnson said that he expected Damon Huard to make his first NFL start in place of Marino. Huard came off the bench in the first quarter last Sunday and rallied Miami past New England 31-30.

Huard worked with the first team again Friday.

“I liked what I saw,” Johnson said.

With the availability of E.G. Green and Jerome Pathon up in the air for Sunday’s game with Cincinnati, the Indianapolis Colts made a roster move to try and shore up their injury-depleted receiving corps.

The team activated former Purdue standout Isaac Jones from the physically unable to perform list. To make room for Jones, Lake Dawson was put on injured reserve, meaning he will miss the remainder of the season.

Green and Pathon are recovering from minor knee injuries, and both are listed as questionable. Marvin Harrison and rookie Terrence Wilkins are expected to be the starting receivers against Cincinnati.
