The city will begin a $750,000 asphalt repaving project Wednesday near Laguna Beach High School.

The streets near the school are expected to be finished before school starts Sept. 7, City Engineer Steve May said. “We’re accelerating the project so there aren’t any constraints on the high school.”

The project, which will cover Wendt Terrace to Coast Highway and Thalia Street from Coast Highway to Wendt Terrace, is expected to be completed in late October. City officials are working on creating traffic detours, May said.

Laguna Beach recently paid a contractor more than $30,000 to build a catch basin and storm drain on Park Avenue at Blumont Street in preparation for the repaving project.
