Comeback Possible for Al’s Bar

Share

Al’s Bar owner Marc Kreisel is quite possibly the only rock lover not singing the blues this week. Yes, downtown L.A.’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll art haven is closed, but apparently, it’s temporary.

Kreisel, who is recovering from a back injury and a plumbing emergency (!), says he’s exploring options for Al’s future. The building Al’s anchors in downtown has been sold, but Kreisel says Al’s can remain open for a few more months and may even be allowed to stay. I’d “tip or die” for that.... I met a couple of club kids at the Hollywood Canteen who told me Saturdays at the Lounge in West Hollywood are becoming a happening dance spot. In Canteen news, the nightspot is recovering from a few overcrowding/noise issues but owner Michael Sutton says the hookahs are fired up again.... Speaking of setbacks, anyone suffering from a loss may want to snag the Long Beach Dub All Stars’ upcoming album. It’s loaded with sunny optimism and a few surprises. Chali 2na, of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, makes an appearance as does the ghost of Bradley Nowell.

Speaking of appearances, we hear tonight’s Troubadour show by guitar hero Doyle Bramhall & the Smokestacks is gonna be off-the-hook....Those darn goth-punks, the Deep Eynde, come home to roost at the Garage on Sept. 1.... Word up to Guttermouth: The Riverside band’s new video, “She Got the Look,” reveals you don’t need rhythm to look hot.... Tiger Army’s two-night stay at the Troubadour last weekend was way sold-out-all killer, no filler.... Speaking of killer, as I file this, Nicolas Cage is making footprints in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Like, he’s so dreamy, to-tally!
