There will be high drama in the High Desert today, when two teams can claim shares of league championships.
Quartz Hill (12-9, 7-1), seeking its fifth Golden League title in six seasons, hosts defending champion Highland (14-11, 7-1), with the winner taking a one-game lead with one to play. Quartz Hill won the first meeting, 9-4, at Highland.
Paraclete (18-3, 3-1) hosts Village Christian (18-3, 4-0) in an Alpha League game and must win to hold hope of winning at least a share of its 21st consecutive league championship.
Two weeks ago, Lauren Nydam of Village Christian and Sara Gonzales of Paraclete combined to strike out 44 batters in an 18-inning game won by Village Christian, 1-0.

One of the region’s most impressive streaks came to an end on Monday, when Flintridge Sacred Heart upset Chaminade, 1-0, in a Mission League game.
Chaminade (15-8-1, 8-1), ranked No. 7 in the region by The Times, was two games short of marching through league play without allowing a run. The streak was ended, when pinch-hitter Kim Smith of Flintridge Sacred Heart (12-9, 4-5) hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly against Chaminade’s Christina Lupacchini in the fifth inning at Chaminade Middle School.

La Canada finished fourth among Southern Section softball teams in the 2000-2001 Student Athlete Awards team participation category. The Spartans (20-2-1), ranked No. 3 in Division IV, have a 3.526 grade-point average.
