CITY SECTION BASEBALL ROUNDUP
In other City Championship first-round games:
San Fernando 19, L.A. Wilson 1--John Sandoval had two hits and four runs batted in, including a three-run triple, for host San Fernando (24-7) in a game that was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.
Jess Moreno had a run-scoring double and a two-run single. He improved to 6-2 by allowing one hit in three shutout innings, striking out six and walking none.
The Tigers will play at No. 4-seeded Banning on Tuesday.
Roosevelt 5, Kennedy 3--The No. 2-seeded Golden Cougars (21-11) were upset by No. 15 Roosevelt (22-8-1) thanks to strong pitching from Junior Iboa at Kennedy.
Kennedy Coach Manny Alvarado filed a protest in the seventh over Roosevelt’s decision to twice remove Iboa on the mound.
With Kennedy runners on second and third and none out in the seventh, Iboa was relieved by Francisco Figueroa. After getting Kevin Hubbard out, Figueroa returned to right field and Iboa returned to pitch. He walked Danny Mata to load the bases. Then Figueroa again replaced Iboa and got the final two outs.
Alvarado alleged that Roosevelt made an illegal substitution. The umpires rejected the protest.
Jeff Halpern, a City athletic administrator, said he would investigate the matter.
Chatsworth 4, University 0--Joe Guntz (12-0) pitched a five-hitter and sophomore Jordan Sisson had three hits to lead the top-seeded Chancellors (28-2) at Chatsworth.
Guntz struck out three and walked four. Ryan Barba had two hits for Chatsworth.
