Harvard-Westlake Cancels Two Trips

Share

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake has canceled two out-of-state trips to prominent events in the wake of last week’s terrorist attacks.

The girls’ volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, will not travel to the Las Vegas Durango tournament, which begins today. The boys’ water polo team, ranked No. 7 by The Times, canceled an annual trip to Texas next week for matches against three schools.

“I think people are uncomfortable having their families separated, especially when air travel is concerned,” said Thomas Hudnut, headmaster at the school. “I’m sure we’ll be up in the air soon enough, but it seems like a good time to stay put for a while.”

The Durango tournament features several nationally ranked volleyball teams and would have included the top six teams ranked by The Times.

“There’s other important things now to deal with,” Coach Jess Quiroz said. “Let’s put everything in perspective. It’s just a game. It’s that simple.”
