Goossen Is Back With New Partner
Boxing promoter Dan Goossen, formerly the head of Ten Goose Boxing of Van Nuys, is returning to Southern California with a new partner.
Goossen announced Tuesday that he and Ron Tutor have teamed up to form Goossen-Tutor Promotions and signed a multiyear contract to deliver Sunday night fights to Fox Sports Net.
The first, on March 10, is scheduled to have Tim Witherspoon facing Ahmad Abdim at the Green Valley Ranch resort and casino in Las Vegas. The next, April 7, has Jhonny Gonzalez meeting Ricardo “Chapo” Vargas in a North American Boxing Federation title fight at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, Calif.
Goossen, 52, has been in the boxing business for 20 years. He and his brother Joe, a trainer, started out in Van Nuys with Ten Goose Boxing, a family operation.
Ten Goose featured Michael Nunn and the Ruelas brothers, Rafael and Gabriel. Rafael will be involved with Goossen-Tutor on the business side, working as an accountant and a liaison with Hispanic fighters.
Goossen left Southern California about eight years ago and teamed with Bob Arum and Top Rank Boxing in Las Vegas for two years. He then was involved with America Presents, a Denver-based promotions company that at one time handled Mike Tyson, for five years before going out on his own six months ago.
Tutor, partner in Tutor Saliba, one of the world’s largest heavy construction companies, grew up in the same Van Nuys neighborhood as the Goossens. He said he will not be involved in the day-to-day operation of Goossen-Tutor Promotions.
