Meadows Leads Redondo Victory

Chris Meadows took care of business on both sides of the ball, accounting for four touchdowns on offense and making a key interception to lead Redondo to a 31-14 victory over Santa Monica in an Ocean League opener at Redondo High.

Meadows ran 13 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns and completed four of nine passes for 98 yards and two more scores.

Mike Whitcher kicked a 36-yard field goal for Redondo (4-2) on its opening drive. Santa Monica (3-3) answered on its next possession when Adrian Gonzalez ran in from a yard out to cap a seven-play, 70-yard drive.

With 6:40 remaining in the first half, Meadows found Travis Gibbs in the end zone on a 40-yard pass to give the Seahawks a 10-7 lead.

Three plays later, Meadows intercepted Ricky Johnson’s pass, and Redondo took a 17-7 lead before halftime when Meadows ran in from one yard.

Gonzalez had 125 yards and a touchdown in 23 carries and Johnson was five of 16 passing for 36 yards with two interceptions.
